Dynamical Cognitive Science by Lawrence Ward,

Dynamical Cognitive Science by Lawrence Ward,
"Dynamical Cognitive Science makes available to the cognitive science community the analytical tools and techniques of dynamical systems science, adding the variables of change and time to the study of human cognition. The unifying theme is that human behavior is an "unfolding in time" whose study should be augmented by the application of time-sensitive tools from disciplines such as physics, mathematics, and economics, where change over time is of central importance. The book provides a fast-paced, comprehensive introduction to the application of dynamical systems science to the cognitive sciences. Topics include linear and nonlinear time series analysis, chaos theory, complexity theory, relaxation oscillators, and metatheoretical issues of modeling and theory building. Tools and techniques are discussed in the context of their application to basic cognitive science problems, including perception, memory, psychophysics, judgment and decision making, and consciousness. The final chapter summarizes the contemporary study of consciousness and suggests how dynamical approaches to cognitive science can help to advance our understanding of this central concept.

Cognitive Psychology: Applying the Science of the Mind by Gregory Robinson-Riegler, X
Cognitive Psychology: Applying the Science of the Mind by Gregory Robinson-Riegler, X
This book brings cognition to life by demonstrating the endless application of cognitive psychology to everyday life. While introducing the current research in this rapidly changing field, the text also introduces critical thinking exercises that highlight important phenomena and provide an engaging firsthand view of the everyday relevance of research in cognition. Highlights: The book has three main threads that serve as unifying themes for current research in the field: Cognition and Neuroscience; Cognition and Consciousness; and Cognition and Individual Differences. A “ story” introduces the book and is continually referred to throughout in installments, highlighting the application of the information and providing a useful organizing tool. A separate chapter on research methods presents an overview of experiments and data analysis, presented within the context of cognition research. Includes unique chapters on autobiographical memory and memory distortion. Also available from this author team: Readings in Cognitive Psychology (ISBN: 0-205-35867-5) This research reader helps provide an understanding of the fundamental concepts that have helped define the field of cognitive psychology. It is interesting, applicable, and extremely relevant to the cognitive psychology course and our lives. Article topics include the distinction between top-down and bottom-up processing, divided attention, proactive interference, and language learnability.

Association for the Scientific Study of Consciousness - Founded in 1994, the Association for the Scientific Study of Consciousness is a professional membership organization that aims to encourage research on consciousness in cognitive science, neuroscience, philosophy, and other relevant disciplines in the sciences and humanities, directed toward understanding the nature, function, and underlying mechanisms of consciousness.

Consciousness - Consciousness is a quality of the mind generally regarded to comprise such key features as subjectivity, self-awareness, sentience, sapience, and the ability to perceive the relationship between oneself and one's environment. It is a subject of much research in philosophy of mind, psychology, neurology, and cognitive science.

Central and East European Center for Cognitive Science - The Central and East European Center for Cognitive Science at the New Bulgarian University does research in fundamental and applied Cognitive science. Research topics include: memory, thinking, language, learning, perception, context, applications to robotics, AI, and cognitive systems, cognitive economics, human factors and usability, education and learning methods.

Science Oxford - Science Oxford (SO) is a modern science gallery in Oxford. Set up and managed by The Oxford Trust, it is the scientific equivalent of an Arts centre.
